I was the Academic Coordinator of the Graduate Programme of Public Health from 2013-2017. This period coincided with the re-alignment of the curriculum that dictated that I worked closely with Quality Promotion and Assurance in developing program and module templates. During this period the program had phenomenal growth and exceed enrolment targets. The throughput of students improved tremendously. I coordinated three modules on the program during the initial period. I was the key informant for the external review of the Master of Public Health program in 2019.
In 2015, with the retirement of a senior Public Health physician, I coordinated both the undergraduate (Becoming a Professional, Community and Evidence Based Practice I & II) and the Professional training program of Public Health Medicine. During the 2014 accreditation period, I was responsible for compiling all accreditation material for HPCSA accreditation of the Public Health Medicine specialist training. I repeated the same task for the 2019 accreditation. During the 2013 and 2018 accreditation of the undergraduate medical program I was an active contributor to the accreditation documentation.
I am a dynamic and seasoned healthcare professional with over 19 years of experience in rendering medical services including project management, research, planning and grant management, fund raising, performance management, operations and administrations management. I hold a verifiable record of successful management and implementation of numerous health system in South Africa with a focus on improving quality of care. I have acquired extensive expertise in policy and standard operating procedure formulation, monitoring and evaluation and management of patient management information system. In addition, I have designed and delivered high impact training modules catering to the specialized needs of health professionals. I have worked on numerous health system strengthening projects that were funded by the United States Agency for International Development through PEPFAR; European Union and World Health Organization. In the last five years, I have been extensively exposed to Differentiated Care as I was the principal investigator and developer of both the Integrated Chronic Disease Management Model as well as Integrated Clinical Services Management that are currently being implemented across all Primary Healthcare Clinics in South Africa. Furthermore, I have recently completed the development of the Referral Policy and Implementation Guideline for South Africa.
From the time of my academic appointment I have supervised in total including current 45 students (38 Masters and 7 Doctoral students). From the above list over the past five years I have graduated 28 Masters students with a further two expected to graduate in September 2019. I expect my first Doctoral student to graduate in 2020. I have published in excess of 40 manuscripts in accredited journals.
