Dr Swabhavika Singh is a Public Health Medicine Specialist. She is currently working in the Discipline of Public Health Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal as a specialist lecturer. She coordinates and teaches on modules in the undergraduate medical curriculum and the postgraduate modules within the Discipline. She completed her Bachelor of Medical Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine, and Surgery and Masters of Medicine in Public Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her interest in health law and ethics saw her obtain a Masters of Science in Bioethics and Health Law at the University of Witwatersrand. She served an internship at the World Health Organisation in Geneva during 2019 within the Family, Women, Adolescent and Child Health cluster working on the Global Strategy for Cervical Cancer. Her interest in expanding health on the geopolitical agenda has led her to participate in the Raisina Young Fellows Programme organised by the Observer Research Foundation of which she is now an alumni and actively participates in their events. Her public health medicine registrar training allowed her to contribute to the COVID-19 response within KwaZulu- Natal at a tertiary hospital and district level. Her passion in improving clinical governance and service delivery resulted in patient safety research which was presented at conferences. Her interest in bioethics saw her chairing the iLembe district health office research ethics committee in 2021-2022. Her passion lies in health policy and health system strengthening in working towards a just and equitable system to attain health for all and on addressing climate change towards a healthier future.
She has clinical experience working at community clinics and a district level hospital in the Western cape and at regional and quaternary hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal.
