Undergraduate Programme

The Discipline of Public Health Medicine participates in undergraduate medical training through the Becoming a Professional Modules and the Selective Modules as well as Post Graduate Medical Training through the registrar training programme.

The non-medical courses offered include the Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health, Master of Public Health and the Doctorate of Philosophy.

Goals and Objectives of Public Health Medicine Education of Undergraduate Medical Students

  • Understand the role of epidemiology in evidence-based medicine and health and new medical knowledge;
  • Address social determinants of health and disease, balancing psycho-social and biomedical perspectives
  • Undertake public health and health systems research
  • Apply health measurement (epidemiology, biostatistics and demography) in the monitoring, evaluation and delivery of health services
